Abstract
This thesis presents a study of sensor-based and sensorless methods for control- ling brushless direct current (BLDC) motors, focusing on comparing the six-step commutation method using Hall sensors with the sensorless commutation method based on back electromotive force (BEMF) zero crossing detection.
A significant part of the study involves designing and developing a custom elec- tronic speed controller (ESC) that integrates both control methods.
The experimental analysis compares the two methods under various conditions, evaluating performance metrics such as efficiency, rotor position accuracy, and system reliability. The findings emphasize the trade-offs between the reliability of sensored control and the cost-effectiveness of sensorless control.
In conclusion, the thesis offers insights into selecting the appropriate BLDC motor control method based on specific application needs, balancing simplicity, cost, and reliability.
